LIGHTS ON. RICK LeGRAND

October 18, 1967 – August 22, 2020

For Rick

Rick lit up Apache Lake: his boat, his friends’ boats, the peaks, and everyone around him. For his birthday, I wanted to give some of that light back.

The Apache Lake Experience

I’m Jarrod (a.k.a. DJ Jayrod, at least according to Suno). I’ve been building the Apache Lake Experience, an interactive simulation of the real Apache Lake, built to real scale, for the Apache Lakers we invite. Take the boat out, fly the canyon, chase the music to the party, play a few games, and pay tribute to the friends we’ve lost. It’s still early, and Rick’s tribute is the first part of it I wanted to share with all of you.

The song

The music started with a playlist of Rick’s favorite songs. I used it to create a custom song with Suno, “Ode to LeGrand,” and cut this film to it. The photos and videos came from his family and friends.

Turn it up

Built with a lot of help from AI and a lot of love. Turn your sound up, press Start, and leave it on.

Legends never die.

Flashing lights warning

The tribute has flashing lights, lasers and fast-moving pictures. If flashing lights affect you or anyone watching, please take care; in the 3D cove you can start with calmer lights. It runs about 3 minutes, with sound, and nothing starts by itself.
